From Negativity to Positivity: An Easy Guide!

Life is all about challenges and obstacles. It’ll throw everything at us to make us stronger and to test our faith. When adversity hits our first response would be either to run and hide; to get far as away as we can, or to hold the fort and fight. But everyone faces challenges in their life.

In reality, the former is much sought after. It is easier to dwell in misery and surround ourselves with negativity. We’ll create a cocoon of helplessness and stay there because it’s easier to ignore or run away from the problem or to complain about it. But the real strength lies in an individual’s willpower to turn a negative situation into a positive situation.

It’s not easy to come face-to-face with a situation and tackle it head-on. It takes great courage to do that. But in the end, our journey will only benefit our life. The challenges would lie the foundations of a successful life. Here are three ways in which you can turn a negative situation into a positive situation:

1. Cultivating a Positive Mentality

We cannot stress enough on the importance of positive thinking. Being optimistic is fundamental to lead a life of satisfaction and happiness. It helps us grow into a better human being.

However, positivity is often misunderstood. Being positive does not mean that you ignore the existence of unpleasant situations. Positive thinking is believing the best will happen while you’re prepared to overcome the worst.  It means that you believe you can overcome these challenges and move on understanding that it is only a part of life.

Having a positive mentality and attitude will rescue you from a life of stress and pessimism. It’ll help you to move forward, one step at a time, no matter how slowly. It’ll help you be brave in front of adversity and give you the strength to face it head-on.

2. Accepting the Situation

Even if you have a positive attitude towards life, when adversity hits you it’ll be difficult for you to overcome. You will definitely feel disappointed or down. It’s quite natural. But after the initial shock, give yourself the time to accept the situation and look at the bigger picture. Accept that whatever has happened had happened and move forward to find a solution. If we can’t find a solution, then the problem is out of our control. The best that we can do is accept that fact and hope for the best. Because nothing in life happens without a reason.

3. Find the Silver Linings in the Storm

Sometimes, when the storm hits our life will be all grey and haphazard. The sun won’t be out and the entire atmosphere in our mind would be gloomy and dark. It would be almost impossible to see the silver linings in the sky then. But look for them and find them. It can be as simple as your mother making your favourite dinner or a stranger’s smile. Look out for something beautiful in the little things when everything big is not exactly as it should be.

Above everything, always count your blessings and be grateful for everything you have. Sometimes, the things we want may not be the things we need for our growth and happiness. Of course, we should work hard to excel in life but not at the cost of what we have now.

Don’t give up at the first sign of distress. Tackle it! Battle it! And turn the situation around. Be the person who turns negativity into positivity!
