Will you fly or will you fall?

We spend our life contemplating possibilities; possibilities of love and success, of beauty and perfection, of failure and regret, and of a thousand different things where we struggle to get past the “what if”. We ask ourselves questions about the thoughts we have, constantly torn between what we want to do and what people want us to do, who we are and whom people want to see, and who want to be and whom people want us to be.

We live our lives with a notion for being perfect; not just to ourselves but to the people around us, society, and the ones who see us from the outside. We strive to meet unrealistic expectations set by us on people who aren’t invested in us. Mistakes are shunned and every decision we have to make seems like a life or death question.

“What if this is the love of my life? What if they aren’t?” or “What if this is all I deserve? What if I deserve more?” or “What if this changes my life completely? What if it doesn’t?”

  • But the question is Are we falling…or flying?

Pressurized and anxious, we wage a war in our minds about what we want to do. We think about the pros and cons, not for us but for the ones who would definitely judge us, We weigh all the factors. We choose the best possible outcome. But, in the end, we end up questioning our decision or worse, regret it.

“What if?” The question of doubt and uncertainty scares a person to the extent where they question every decision they make. But the underlying truth is that no matter how much we contemplate the various possibilities and outcomes of our decisions, we can never predict the future.

  • Don’t you think that you can fly?

We are so focused on the outcome of our decisions that we rarely enjoy the journey that it takes us. Everything has consequences. Sometimes things turn out exactly the way we like, sometimes it doesn’t. As Carl Lewis once said, “It’s all about the journey, not the outcome.”

It is our decision, our life. The path that we take would be one of our choosing. A path we won’t regret no matter how hard it gets because we chose it wholeheartedly. And the journey will only help us grow stronger and wiser.

  • We don’t have to fall…we can fly!

No matter what the question or decision, we should do what we want to do. We should follow our hearts and dreams. We have one life to live and the best way to live it is on our terms. Don’t overthink the various possibilities of a decision because what awaits you will come to you no matter what. Do what inspires you. Do the things that you can’t stop thinking about!

Let go of your fears and insecurities. They’ll only hold you back. Motivate yourself to move forward. Motivate yourself every single day. The one person standing in the way of you embracing your wings and soaring high is you. Have faith in yourself. Love yourself for who you are and embrace the unknown. Trust in yourself and the choices you make. Let the universe guide you. The rest will fall in place. Success is just a door you’ll open on the way to your dreams.

As Erin Hanson beautifully wrote, “And you ask, “What if I fall?” Oh, but my darling, “What if you fly?”
